La mwbaproplatinotia (mwbqmwbgProplatynotia longirostrata) è un mwbwrettile estinto, appartenente agli mwcasquamati. Visse nel mwcqCretaceo superiore (mwcgCampaniano, circa 75 milioni di anni fa) e i suoi resti sono stati ritrovati in mwcwMongolia.

Descrizione
Questo rettile è conosciuto per un mwdwcranio, lungo circa 4 centimetri, che fa supporre una lunghezza di poco più di mezzo metro per l'animale completo. Il cranio era lungo e sottile, ed era sprovvisto di arcate jugali accentuate che in forme simili (mweaGobiderma, mwegParavaranus) rendevano il cranio piuttosto largo. Mascella e mandibola dovevano essere forniti di potenti muscoli adduttori, più grandi di quelli degli attuali mwfavarani; si suppone quindi che il morso di mwfqProplatynotia fosse molto potente.
Classificazione
mwgaProplatynotia è stato descritto per la prima volta nel mwgq1984 sulla base di resti ritrovati nella formazione di Barun Goyot nel mwgwdeserto di Gobi. Il nome indica una presunta parentela con i platinoti (mwhaPlatynota), un gruppo di lucertole che comprendono i varani e gli mwhqelodermi. In effetti, molti studiosi ritengono che mwhgProplatynotia possa essere un membro primitivo del gruppo. Alcuni (Norell e Gao, 1997) ritengono addirittura che potrebbe essere ancestrale direttamente al genere mwhwmwiaVaranus, mentre altri (Alifanov, 2000) suggeriscono che mwiqProplatynotia possa essere strettamente imparentato con un altro varanoide del Cretaceo asiatico, mwigColpodontosaurus, a causa di alcune similitudini nei denti e nella mandibola.
